This highly anticipated cumulative report, now in its 5th year, is being released by The Tambellini Group (TTG), the world’s leading research and advisory firm for higher education executives. The report provides a detailed, objective overview of higher education SIS selections made by colleges and universities in the United States. The report, which provides detailed research about SIS vendor selections by institution size and type, aims to help higher education institutions make informed SIS selection and implementation decisions.

“The findings in the 2013 TTG SIS report include data some may find surprising,” says Vicki Tambellini, CEO of The Tambellini Group and one of the report’s authors. “In 2012, 90% of SIS selections were made by institutions with fewer than 5,000 students. Our report also shows institutions have preferred vendor preferences based on institution size and type.”

According to the report, the majority of new student information systems were purchased in 2012 from Campus Management Corporation by private for-profit institutions with fewer than 5,000 students. The 2013 TTG SIS report also shows that Ellucian was selected most often in 2012 by public and private non-profit institutions. For the first time in the TTG SIS report series, the report separates its reviews of vendor strengths between private for-profit institutions and public and private non-profit institutions because purchasing requirements and solution acquisition criteria are often different for each type of institution.

The report, researched by TTG analysts and co-authored by Tambellini and Mary Beth Cahill, TTG’s Chief Research Officer, examines the SIS choices higher education institutions made last year and in previous years to illustrate emerging technology selection patterns. With this report, higher education institutions considering acquiring a SIS are able to know the technology preferences of their peer institutions as well as the key issues involved in their acquisition decision processes.

In addition to data related to institutions’ SIS acquisition decisions, the report includes comprehensive reviews of the top higher education SIS vendors. The top vendors covered include Campus Management Corporation, Ellucian, Jenzabar, Oracle, RJM SONISWEB and Three Rivers Systems. A section is included on “companies to watch,” featuring Amperea, FAME, UNIT4 and Workday.

The SIS data analyzed in this report are derived from the TTG Education Institution Technology Profile Database™, the world’s most comprehensive catalog of 51,300 education technology selections made by institutions worldwide. The Education Institution Technology Profile Database™ contains SIS records for more than 5,400 U.S. higher education institutions, including accredited and non-accredited schools. The total size of the Education Institution Technology Profile Database™ exceeds 18,100 global institutions, and includes data in categories such as most recent systems selected for human resources, financial systems, learning management systems, advancement/alumni systems, student/faculty/staff email and library systems.
