Tambellini Releases White Paper on Information Security in Higher Education

A Practitioner’s Perspective on Implementing an Identity and Access Management Initiative

Irvington, Virginia – December 5, 2017 –  The Tambellini Group, the world’s leading independent research and advisory firm dedicated exclusively to higher education, today announced the release of a new white paper report entitled Leading an Identity and Access Management (IAM) Initiative in Higher Education. The report examines the process of implementing an identity and access management program by a respected industry practitioner, Fred Damiano, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Chief Information Officer, Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

The white paper shares the perspective of Mr. Damiano on topics related to information security—with a highlight on identity management—at a small, residential, liberal arts institution. It provides insights and lessons learned on how an institution in the non-profit sector, operating with limited resources, can implement a robust information security program—and take advantage of security incidents in building that program. The paper focuses on leading an IAM initiative and managing the associated change. The paper has a “checklist” structure to afford other higher education or non-profit institutions with recommended tactics and suggestions.

“Identity and access management is one of the most critical challenges in higher education today,” said Katelyn Ilkani, Vice President of Client Services and Cybersecurity Research at The Tambellini Group. “Higher education institutions maintain large amounts of sensitive personal and financial data, and are particularly vulnerable to cyber attacks. Tambellini’s Cybersecurity Advisory Practice is committed to bringing current research, best practice recommendations, and cybersecurity readiness to colleges and universities of all types and sizes.”

The Leading an Identity and Access Management (IAM) Initiative in Higher Education white paper is one of a series of publications offered by The Tambellini Group as part of the Cybersecurity Advisory Service.
