Irvington, Virginia – February 26, 2018 – The Tambellini Group, the world’s leading independent research and advisory firm dedicated exclusively to higher education, today announced that the recipient of the 2018 Tambellini CIO of the Year Award, is Dr. Sharon Blanton, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at The College of New Jersey.

Dr. Blanton has a track record of thought leadership and successful strategic planning across multiple higher education institutions, and in her role as a board member for many organizations. She is a trusted source who has inspired people with her enterprising ideas and passionate leadership.

The Tambellini Group sponsors the annual CIO Award as a recognition of excellence within higher education technology leadership. The award process exemplifies the Tambellini mission to capture, validate, and share insights on vital information for the higher education technology community.

The award highlights IT leaders who demonstrate effective leadership, innovation, and creativity in planning and deploying modern technology. It identifies those who go above and beyond in helping their colleagues and offering positive and compelling contributions to the higher education community.

“We are proud to honor Dr. Blanton and her consistent record of enduring accomplishments,” said Vicki Tambellini, President and CEO of The Tambellini Group. “She has a keen ability to identify the most strategic needs in each setting and convert her vision into outstanding services for her institution. Throughout her career, Dr. Blanton has actively contributed back to higher education and the IT profession.”

The CIO Award is given in honor of Dr. Wayne Brown, as a tribute to his tremendous impact on CIOs in higher education. Dr. Brown has led the CHECS CIO study since 2003. This research provides valuable information about higher education CIOs’ characteristics, education, experience, and effectiveness.
