New SIS Report: Oracle the most selected vendor for Student Information Systems in 2013

Oracle Corporation’s PeopleSoft Enterprise Student Administration student information system was the preferred student information system (SIS) selected among U.S. institutions in 2013, according to the new research report, 2014 Student Information Systems: U.S. Higher Education Market Share, Trends and Leaders.

This highly anticipated cumulative report, now in its 6th year of publication, is being released by The Tambellini Group (TTG), the world’s leading research and advisory firm for higher education executives. The report provides a detailed, objective overview of higher education student information system selections made by colleges and universities in the United States. The report, which provides detailed research about SIS vendor selections by institution size and type, aims to help higher education institutions make informed SIS selection and implementation decisions.

“The findings in the 2014 TTG SIS report show that the market for student information systems  in the U.S. is showing signs of accelerated change,” said Vicki Tambellini CEO of the Tambellini Group and one of the authors of the report. “The number of SIS selections in U.S. higher education shows continued growth in 2013, after bottoming out in 2011.  In 2013, the increase of SIS selections is the result of growth in the public sector, claiming 42% of the SIS selections. Additionally, new cloud solutions are being introduced which will give institutions more options.”

According to the report, institutions have specific vendor preferences based on institution size and type. The majority of new selections in 2013 opted for Oracle’s SIS solution with 78 institutions selecting PeopleSoft Enterprise Student Administration, followed by Jenzabar with 25 selections. While SIS selections continue to favor those schools with enrollments of less than 2,500 students, activity in mid-sized schools is beginning to pick up.

Since purchasing requirements and solution acquisition criteria differ among private-for-profit, public, and private non-profit institutions, the report provides reviews the strengths of the top vendors between these different types of institutions.

This year’s report includes a new section that focuses on the implementation component of a SIS selection.  For the first time, the 2014 report provides a dedicated section that details the implementation approach of the top SIS vendors.

In addition to data related to institutions’ SIS acquisition decisions and implementation, the report includes comprehensive reviews of the top higher education SIS vendors. The top vendors covered include Campus Management Corporation, Ellucian, Jenzabar, Oracle, RJM SONISWEB and Three Rivers Systems. A section is included on “companies to watch,” featuring FAME, UNIT4, Kuali, and Workday.

The SIS data analyzed in this report is derived from the TTG Education Institution Technology Profile Database™, the world’s most comprehensive catalog of 53,300 education technology selections made by institutions worldwide. The Education Institution Technology Profile Database™ contains SIS records for more than 5,400 U.S. higher education institutions, including accredited and non-accredited schools. The total size of the Education Institution Technology Profile Database™ exceeds 18,100 global institutions, and includes data in categories such as most recent systems selected for human resources, financial systems, learning management systems, advancement/alumni systems, student/faculty/staff email and library systems.
