Speaker Bio

Mitch Davis
Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Dartmouth College

As the recently retired Dartmouth CIO, I dedicated myself to these goals and principles, which collectively form what I call the CIO’s Oath: IT is unified in its purpose, diverse in its thinking and staffing, confident, trusted and focused on providing exceptional leadership, consulting, and the information/technology services our clients need to do their work and drive toward the future. Every ounce of our resources is focused on working with the entirety of the faculty, students, and staff as together we engage with the world’s great challenges at a renowned liberal arts college and internationally acclaimed research university.

During my fourteen years at Bowdoin as a Senior Vice President and CIO, it was transformed into one of the most technically advanced liberal arts college in the nation. Additionally, I led the Marketing, Social Media and Web department that provided online media services across the College. Before coming to Bowdoin, I was one of the Executive Directors of ITSS at Stanford University, an Associate Dean and CIO for Stanford Law School, and the Assistant Dean for Information Technology at University of Oregon School of Law. Prior to joining higher education, I was a consultant to law firms, hospitals, advertising, publishing, and education. I specialize in strategic leadership, change management and quickly building highly effective, motivated, and talented teams that work together to create exceptional clients who prosper and drive organizational value.

I started working in higher education with the goal of creating a generation of faculty and students who could effectively use the latest information technology in their research, teaching, learning, and life. I have promoted organizational change and emerging technology in education for over 30 years, by acting as a consultant to universities, researchers, and faculty, speaking at seminars, sitting on education technology committees, business and government advisory boards, and by working with venture capitalist and businesses to create the software and hardware to deliver next generation solutions.
