Speaker Bio

Kurt Dorschel
Principal, Education and Research
Huron

Kurt has spent more than two decades in the higher education sector, both as a consultant and an administrator. He has helped his clients innovate and advance in nearly every major component of university business, including human resources, finance, research administration, marketing and communications, enrollment management, facilities, and information technology. Kurt collaborates with his clients to develop and mobilize new organizational designs, management processes, technologies and cultural practices. These integrated solutions have enabled institutions to improve efficiency, service and compliance and to enhance the ability to achieve strategic objectives.

Over his career, Kurt has worked with a broad range of public and private colleges, universities and academic health centers, and he works with leaders to identify strategies that are relevant to their needs and context. His work frequently involves the evaluation, design, and implementation of new organizational structures, processes, and technologies, and he has led numerous projects that require the alignment of these components.

Kurt has extensive experience in organizational design and talent strategy/management and has worked with several institutions to develop new approaches to compensation, job classification, performance management and talent acquisition. He brings a people-centric perspective to his projects and focuses on how to secure lasting change in an organization.

Before joining Huron, Kurt worked at New York University — first in procurement, then as the assistant director of administrative services for the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In the latter role, he oversaw the budgeting, planning and management of the school’s capital improvement portfolio.

Kurt holds Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts in performance studies from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Grinnell College.
