On February 2, 2023, Thesis announced that SilverTree Equity, a leading private equity firm focused on technology, completed the acquisition of the company from Advent International. Thesis is a provider of higher education student systems in North America and Europe. Advent International retained its ownership of the student business when it sold Unit4 (now focused on finance and HCM solutions) in June 2021. Rebranded as Thesis, the company has been steadily working to deliver Elements, a cloud-native student system designed for the small and mid-size higher education market.
With this acquisition, Thesis has secured significant growth funding and a value-add partner to support Thesis’s current product direction and roadmap. SilverTree is in complete alignment with the Thesis senior leadership team to deliver the company’s stated goals for 2023 and beyond. Thus, no leadership changes are anticipated from this acquisition.
While the Thesis brand is relatively new, the company has a long history in the higher education student system market, dating back to Three Rivers CAMS. The company is currently working to deliver two new cloud-native student platforms: Thesis Elements, scheduled for a late Q1 2023 launch, and Thesis Student Management (SM) (launch TBD). Both student systems are being designed for the small to mid-sized higher education market, for which there is a tremendous need for modern and affordable student solutions. Thesis Elements is positioned as an upgrade path for institutions using the Thesis CAMS Enterprise Student system. In 2022, Thesis signed on seven early adopters to Thesis Elements.
Tambellini sees this acquisition as extremely positive for Thesis. SilverTree not only acquired Thesis, but they are also investing in the company’s growth with the shared vision and goal of bringing new student solutions to market. This growth capital is positive for employees and reduces the risk for customers doing business with a small company that has strong financial backing. The SilverTree investment in Thesis will support Element’s upcoming launch and position the company for continued research and development and future growth.
